Please read this agreement carefully. You may use Melbourne Emergency Watch only if you understand and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, select “I do not agree” and leave the website.
1. Volunteer community project — not an emergency service
Melbourne Emergency Watch (“MEW”) is intended to be a volunteer-run, non-commercial community information project. It is not a government agency, public safety authority, emergency dispatcher, 911 service, professional monitoring service, or official source of emergency instructions. It does not dispatch responders, guarantee that anyone is monitoring reports, or promise that a report will be reviewed or acted upon.
2. No guarantee; information must be independently verified
Reports, map pins, photographs, comments, status labels, and other information may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, misleading, duplicated, malicious, or unavailable. “Confirmed” means only that a MEW volunteer or authorized user reviewed the submission under the website’s process; it is not an official finding or a guarantee of safety, accuracy, or current conditions. You must independently verify information with appropriate official sources before acting on it.
3. Emergencies and personal safety
Never rely on MEW to report an emergency or obtain emergency assistance. For immediate danger, call 911. Follow instructions from law enforcement, fire-rescue, emergency medical services, and official local, state, and federal authorities. Do not enter floodwater, approach fires, downed power lines, damaged structures, crime scenes, or other dangerous areas to take photographs or verify a report. Do not delay evacuation or protective action to use this website.
4. Assumption of risk and limitation/release of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you voluntarily assume the risks associated with accessing, using, or relying on this website and its content. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree that the website owner/operator, project organizers, developers, volunteers, moderators, administrators, contributors, and users are not responsible for accidents, injuries, deaths, property damage, losses, costs, or other claims arising from or related to your access to or use of the website, reliance on user-submitted information, inaccurate or delayed reports, unavailable services, moderation decisions, or actions you or others take or fail to take based on website content. This provision is intended to apply to claims based on ordinary negligence to the extent such a release is legally permitted. It does not exclude or limit any liability that applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited, including liability for intentional misconduct or other non-waivable legal duties.
5. User responsibility and submitted content
You are responsible for your actions and for any text, location, or photograph you submit. Submit only information you believe is truthful and relevant. Do not trespass, break laws, put yourself or others at risk, impersonate officials, publish threats, or upload unlawful, abusive, graphic, intimate, identifying, or otherwise inappropriate images. Do not include private personal information unless you have a lawful reason and authority to share it. You must have the rights and permissions needed to submit any photograph or other content.
6. Moderation and availability
MEW volunteers and administrators may review, edit, hide, reject, or remove submissions and may suspend or restrict access. They are not obligated to review every submission, respond to users, verify conditions, or keep the website continuously available. Photo approval and incident status are moderation decisions for this community tool only.
7. No professional advice or relationship
Nothing on MEW is professional, legal, medical, law-enforcement, engineering, weather, or emergency-management advice. Use of the website does not create an agency, employment, partnership, fiduciary, or professional relationship with the owner, developers, volunteers, moderators, administrators, or other users.
8. Acceptance and refusal
By selecting “I agree — enter website,” you confirm that you have read and understood these terms, voluntarily agree to them, and understand that you must not use the website if you disagree. If you do not agree, select “I do not agree — leave website.”
